The stars of the Step Up franchise usually come from an extensive background. The immense talent and formal dance training of each cast member is presented within the first five minutes of the film; however, Rick Malambri reveals his background was in acting when joining the film. According to Malambri, the film franchise wanted to evolve into a more mature storyline which demanded Malambri’s character to be the designated leader rather than the head dancer. Naturally, more character development was needed rather than dancing expertise. But the experience he does bring comes from being a lifelong self-learner.
