I’m not sure if im doing this move correctly, my hips feel like they’ll dropping rather abruptly. Should I just be moving left, right/ up, down, or should there be a slight circle with my hips aswell? My bum seems to want to get involved. I can sway my hips quite fluidly, but this movement is move direct. From What i’ve described, can you tell me if i am doing it wrong? lol. I love the coin like skirt you’re wearing ^_^

try standing in front of a mirror, like you normally would stand, but with knees slightly bent. lift one hip and then drop it. repeat with the other hip. this should come naturally to people, not with strain and complete focus. pretty soon other moves will just come naturally, do what feels right. if you dont like how it looks, practice, practice, practice it over until you feel comfortable and it looks right to you

i absolutely hate this video: this makes all belly dancers look like sluts! for one thing, there is absolutely no reason to have so much focus and strain to have the “perfect posture”. Belly dancing should come gracefully, smoothly, and without having to think about it. For anyone trying to belly dance, just stand with your knees bent slightly, and practice lifting one hip, and then the other. All other moves will come easy after you get that down.
